Chapter 189 - A Present For Her
PRESENT…
"Miss Xin?"
"Just a minute," Zhenyi\'s voice came from the washroom, and after a few seconds, she emerged from the washroom.
It was almost time for dinner and she was of the view that the maid was knocking on the door because of the reason that she had brought the dinner for her straight to the room, given her straight up break down in the afternoon, no one would be daring enough to persist her to join them for dinner on the dining table.
It was her first breakdown after that day in the hospital when she cried and passed out in her husband\'s arms. It was easy that day with him around but today, it was tough and so hard that she didn\'t wish to experience it again.
They say breakdown leads to breakthrough, and here she was certainly longing for one...
If you ask her why she broke down today, she still wouldn\'t be able to answer the question. The monsters of her past were dancing in her head without any break, and it felt like her lips were sealed and crying was the only breakthrough at that moment.
Honestly speaking, she was feeling guilty for causing unnecessary worry to her husband and father, but she just couldn\'t control her emotions today. It was not like her at all, but then again, she was not like herself for many days now.
Long Jie hadn\'t tried to come inside the room or talk to her since noon, and now she was over the edge, overthinking if she had done too much for the day. She was prancing back and forth racking up her brain when she heard the voice of the maid again.
"Wait a second."
She was not hungry but still, she opened the door. However, she was surprised by what she saw next. Indeed, the maid was standing outside her door but instead of a tray full of food, there was a white rectangular box placed in her hands.
"Come in," Zhenyi said and started eyeing the box curiously, which was not like her at all again.
"That\'s for you, Ma\'am."
"Is it?" Zhenyi\'s eyes darted towards the girl who brought the box to her. She was a beautiful petite girl and it seemed she was newly appointed.
The girl nodded yes.
The white box was tied by blue-colored ribbon and like a curious cat that she was being right now, she undid it quickly. She removed its lid like an impatient kid waiting to remove the wrapper of his favorite candy, and directly her gaze fell on the yellow folded paper.
\'Forgive me?\' It read.
It was only two words. Nothing more. And nothing less.
And all of the sudden, realization dawned on her. She just knew who had sent the box and why.
\'Oh Lord, why was he asking for forgiveness? He did nothing wrong. In fact, it was her who couldn\'t control her emotions and broke down.\' She thought to herself. She was feeling like a jerk suddenly.
\'Screw you, Zhenyi.\' She cursed herself.
She saw a white-colored something placed neatly into the box and gently, she took it out with her hands.
She put one hand on her mouth in amazement as she realized what it was.
A dress. A white-colored dress to be exact.
\'What\'s this man\'s obsession with white color?\' She thought to herself. He had filled her wardrobe at their home with white color outfits. Surely there were other colors too, but white was still dominating the other colors.
She stared at the dress for an exact five minutes. With a sigh, she put the dress back in the box and closed the lid. She couldn\'t do it. She was being a coward again but who cares.
"Miss Xin, aren\'t you going to try it? " the young lady asked Zhenyi.
Zhenyi glanced at her with narrowed eyes. "You are new here?"
The young lady nodded. "Just joined yesterday, Ma\'am."
It explained her different attitude than the rest of the staff. Zhenyi had decided to not look at the box again. She was not going out of her room so what was the meaning in trying it out.
After a while, Zhenyi\'s eyes darted towards the box again. She couldn\'t stop thinking about it. Stop it. Stop thinking about it.
"Ma\'am?"
"You\'re still here?" Zhenyi asked impatiently.
The young lady shrugged. She actually shrugged and Zhenyi narrowed her eyes at the maid\'s attitude. \'Did she know the staff was not supposed to behave like she was,\' Zhenyi pondered.
"If I don\'t convince you to come down with me, I\'ll have to leave this job tomorrow." The Young Lady decided to come clean.
"And how is this any of my business?" Zhenyi raised her brow.
"Of course, it\'s not yours. It\'s not you who\'s thrown out of her previous job and now badly needs one."
"You\'re not doing a brilliant job in convincing me, young lady," said Zhenyi.
Zhenyi placed the box on the table and turned her attention towards the TV. Out of sight. Out of mind. She needed some time alone. She didn\'t know why she was avoiding everyone? Could it be that whenever she would look at their faces they would see her with guilty eyes like they had committed a crime when in reality it was her who was guilty? Could it be because whenever she would look at her father she would remember all the pain she had caused him? Or could it be because whenever she would roam in this cold mansion she would remember the warmth it once held? Or Could it be because she was the reason for the missing laughter and happiness of this barren and luxurious mansion?
Whatever the exact reason was, directly or indirectly it would always make her guilty.
